Possible crossbreed?!

Recommended Posts

My partner is a bit puzzled about his 9 month labrador, supposedly purebred. However, she bellies like a spaniel when asked to sit and stay, has a very long body with shorter legs, and VERY long fur, especially around her neck and back end, though all along her body it's dense, thick and longer than a lab's usual coat. We first noticed this in July as she began to get older,so don't think it's just a winter coat.

The breeder we got her from has cockers, and had a litter of working golden retriever pups at the same time...although doesn't own a male golden.

Just like your opinions on the pup and see what you think before we dive into DNA testing etc.

Thanks, all of you. We thought possible spaniel too, because of her back end and face.

Langouroux: She's got a very gruff bark - deep and 'manly'! I've never heard any high-pitched noises from her except a whine or two. What are your thoughts?

well at first glance i though that the muzzle and long coat resembled a Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriever.

check this out:

and there is alot more of them about than people think, not so rare as alot of people are led to believe. they are know for a having a shriek or squeal but if it is crossed then the gruff bark would come from the lab.

just a possibility.

hi is your dog kc reg have you the papers to say she is

KC papers aren't the be all and end all, i have a border terrier which lives near me, ugly lil thing doesn't look anything like a BT and the fella paid a big fee for the little bugger with KC papers, you must of heard of some very well bred KC cockers being "Sprockers" there are many unscrupulous breeders out there.

On this particular case it is very hard to say, maybe you should do alot of research into it, ask a well known lab breeder for there opinion, as you say it could be the winter coat, looks like there is a dash of spaniel in there to me though??

Hi yes she is KC registered, but like rickyspringer says, they don't mean that much as it's only the breeder's word that the pup is from those two parents...

Hi,

Can see where you're all coming from but I wouldn't jump the gun just yet. I had a Lab that I knew the parents of and knew the breeder well enough to trust and she was the spit of your bitch and I've seen others that look similar.

When I first read your post, before I saw the photo I was expecting much more of a cross-bred looking thing than that!

Not sure I'd worry to be honest, as long as she does the job

in the shooting times last year some time ( will look) there are a page on this and its the breeder that is saying what the dogs are on the papers. if he gets his dog dna tested and it turns out not to be what the breeder says then the breeder might or will get banned from the kc.

i read that one breeder had 4 bitches and was breeding from the 4 if some one wanted a pet one they got one from not top stock but payed top money.

if some one wanted it for work like we do they got the real pup
